The American hip hop group Wu-Tang Clan’s first studio album, Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers), was released by Loud Records on November 9, 1993. It was the group’s debut studio album. The album was produced by the de facto head of the group, RZA, and the recording sessions took place at Firehouse Studio in New York City during the latter half of 1992 and the first few months of 1993.

  • The films “Enter the Dragon” (1973) and “The 36th Chamber of Shaolin” are where the title first appeared (1978).
  • Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) established a template for hardcore hip hop during the 1990s with its gritty and recognizable sound, which also contributed to the resurgence of New York City hip hop at the national level.

Its sound also proved extremely important in the development of current hip hop, and the members of the group’s explicit, hilarious, and free-associative lyrics have served as a model for a large deal of later hip hop music. It was a major release during the period of hip hop known as the East Coast Renaissance, and its impact was essential in paving the way for a number of other East Coast rappers, such as Nas, The Notorious B.I.G., Mobb Deep, and Jay-Z.

  1. The album achieved surprise chart success, debuting at number 41 on the US Billboard 200 list, and selling 30,000 copies in its first week on sale.
  2. This was despite the record having a raw, underground feel.
  3. The Recording Industry Association of America awarded it their Platinum certification in 1995, and 23 years later, in October 2018, they awarded it their Triple Platinum certification.

Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers), which was met with mostly favorable reviews from the majority of music reviewers when it was first released, is now widely considered to be not just one of the most important albums of the 1990s but also one of the finest hip hop albums of all time.

What was the first song by the Wu-Tang Clan?

Both ‘Protect Ya Neck’ and ‘Tearz’ were the first songs that the Wu-Tang Clan ever recorded, and they were the first songs that the group ever independently published on a 12-inch single in December of 1992. The free-associative and braggadocious fight rap known as “Protect Ya Neck” has contributions from eight of the nine members of the Wu-Tang Clan.
